Katherine Peirce Burleson

For Katherine Peirce-Burleson, storytelling has never been limited to the classroom or the written page. It has been a way of understanding people, preserving memories, and discovering meaning in experiences both extraordinary and ordinary.

After earning two degrees from Florida State University and completing a doctorate in journalism at the University of Texas, Katherine built a distinguished academic career teaching journalism for thirty-eight years. Her work challenged students to think critically, write responsibly, and appreciate the power of thoughtful communication. Alongside her teaching, she explored research, mentored future journalists, and remained deeply engaged with the communities around her.

Away from academia, Katherine’s life has been equally rich. She has embraced travel, music, faith, neighborhood leadership, lifelong friendships, and meaningful family relationships while navigating personal loss, new beginnings, and the evolving journey of self-discovery. Each experience has contributed another story to the remarkable collection that became Word Puddles: My Life in Snippets.

Her writing reflects the same qualities that shaped her life curiosity, intelligence, humor, empathy, and authenticity. She has an extraordinary ability to recognize that even the smallest moments can carry lasting significance. Rather than presenting herself as extraordinary, Katherine celebrates the beauty found in everyday experiences, encouraging readers to treasure their own memories with the same appreciation and honesty.

Today, she continues to share stories that entertain, inspire reflection, and celebrate the wonderfully imperfect journey of being human.
